Constitution Day Panel
September 18, Noon
The Washington College of Law will mark Constitution Day 2006 on September 18 with a panel discussion on judicial independence. The program will take place at 12 noon in Room 603 of the Washington College of Law.
Panelists are Professors Amanda Frost, Darren Hutchinson, Jamin Raskin and Herman Schwartz. Steve Wermiel will serve as moderator for the program.
The topic of "judicial independence" was suggested by the immediate past President of the American Bar Association, Michael Greco of Boston, and the current ABA President, Karen Mathis of Denver, as an appropriate focus for this year's Constitution Day celebrations.
Panelists will discuss a wide range of problems created by attacks on the judiciary and by efforts to strip jurisdiction over some volatile issues from federal or state courts,. The panel will also consider the state of judicial independence in the court systems of other countries.
