About Constitution Day
On September 17, 1787, the 55 delegates to the Constitutional Convention held their final meeting in Philadelphia. On that day, the delegates signed the Constitution of the United States of America. Many believe the U.S. Constitution represents the greatest expression of statesmanship and compromise ever written.
Frustrated with citizens' lack of understanding of the Constitution, Senator Robert Byrd proposed legislation in 2004 to require young Americans to learn more about it.
